The book of 2 Samuel continues the story of David in the era of kings in Israel. Despite David's anointing many years earlier, his life is complicated by power plays and spiritual struggles (murder, political intrigue, rape, incest, betrayal, rebellion) that dog Israel as God strives to build a nation that can bring his blessing to all others.
