In this letter to the Corinthians, Paul writes to believers who were surrounded by cultural influences that ran counter to the teachings of Christ. While Paul addresses several practical concerns for a young church reeling from its own challenges, his overriding message is the significance of Christ’s crucifixion and the wisdom that this crucified Christ offers to all believers. The Corinthians needed the wisdom of God to show them the foolishness of the world’s “wisdom,” and so do we today. This letter invites us to see how the Corinthians were to apply Christ’s wisdom to their lives and to consider how we might apply it to our lives as well.
